Lukang Old Street
Lukang used to be the second most important trading harbor back in Qing Dynasty. Due to sedimentation and the railway planned by the Japanese ruler didn’t cross here, Lukang has escaped urban planning and preserved most of the old houses for over a century. the old street is made up of curved, red-tiled lanes. Both sides of the streets are lined with newly renovated old-style shop buildings that feature intensely interesting internal room layouts and old-style exteriors. Here you can feel some of the atmosphere of old Lukang.
National Taichung Theater
National Taichung Theater, nicknamed “the Most Difficult House to Accomplish” by the industry, was designed by the internationally acclaimed Japanese architect, Toyo Ito. Drawn from the concept of the Sound Cave, National Taichung Theater makes the best of its streamlined, rigid silhouette by means of modern techniques and materials, and then turns itself into an active venue.
Feng Chia Night Market
Feng Chia Night Market is within a 1 kilometer radius of Feng Chia University. It includes Wen-hua Night Market, Feng jia Road, Xitun Road, Fuxing Road and Beacon Sun Plaza. According to marketing surveys, it is one of the most popular and visited night markets among young people. At weekends, as many as 30,000 people will pass through it! It is perhaps the most famous night market in all of Taiwan. Alishan Forest Recreation Area
Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, with its forest railways, Sacred Trees, sea of clouds, sunrise, and cherry blossoms, is the most famous and popular forest recreational area in Taiwan. It is a brilliant jadeite shinning on the Alishan Mountain Range. You may take the renowned mountain touring forest railway at TRA Chiayi Station, slowly make your way to the terminal station Alishan Station (the forest railway’s main line currently operates between Chiayi and Fenqihu only, not fully operational yet) while enjoying the marvelous landscape of forest. You can also drive via the Provincial Highway No. 18, which will take you to Alishan National Forest Recreational Area at the 88.2k marker with an elevation of 2216 meters in less than two hours. The Alishan Mountain Range is one of the Top Five Mountain Ranges in Taiwan. Alishan (Ali Mountain) is not just a mountain, but the name for the entire mountain area.
Alishan Forest Railway
Construction of the Alishan Forest Railway was commenced in 1899 by the Japanese. Intended to transport logs down the mountain, it has a 762mm gauge, a gradient of 6.25%, and a minimum turning radius of 40 meters. Traffic was opened on the 66.6-kilometer stretch between Chiayi and Erwanping in 1912, and was extended up Alishan to a full length of 71.4 kilometers in 1914. The railway climbs from 30 meters above sea level to 2,216 meters, has 47 tunnels and 72 bridges, and passes through a cross-section of climates and terrain types. From Chiayi, the railway travels along relatively flat terrain for 14.2 kilometers before beginning the long climb, corkscrewing around Mt Duli, climbing 200 meters over a distance of five kilometers. The railway then travels on to Pingzhena Station. From here it zigzags up the mountain, reversing direction at each new section of line as it gradually ascends Alishan.

Anping Old Fort
In 1624, Dutch built the first fort in Anping, Taiwan, called “Fort Zeelandia”, now known as Anping Old Fort, where has been the administrative center of the Dutch regime, and the hub for trading. The building was originally constructed in square inner fortress and rectangle outer walls. In 1661, the fort was renamed as Anping to commemorate his home town when Guoxingye (Cheng Cheng-Kung) has driven the Dutch out of Taiwan. Therefore, Fort Zeelandia was also known as “King’s Fort” or “Taiwan Fort”, nicknamed Anping Old Fort.
Tainan Confucius Temple
The Confucius Temple in Tainan was built in 1666, it was the first Confucius Temple, before the end of Manchu Dynasty, it was the location of the highest official institute of higher learning in Taiwan. The Taiwan Palace of “Confucianism Study,” it owned the incompatible position of culture and education, and was called “The Highest Institute.” The Confucius Temple has been through more than thirty times of reconstruction, a part of the building was destroyed during the wars or ruined by nature disasters; the present scale of the Confucius Temple was the look after reconstructing during the time when Japanese were ruling (1917), its elegant and simple localization characteristic takes a distinctive attitude of its own among the Confucius Temples buildings in Taiwan. There are fifteen structures inside the Confucius Temple, the primary sacrifices in the palace is to Confucius divine tablet, on both sides, the sacrifices are to the sixteen pupils of Confucius.
Anping Old Street
Anping Old Street was the first street in Taiwan to be given a name. More than 300 years ago this was the first street built by the Dutch in Anping. In the early days, the street was built solely for pedestrians and push carts due to the fact that the street was narrow and there was not that much space to navigate. Many tourists coming to Anping must visit this street, and the noisy and bustling environment of Anping Old Street is one of its hallmarks.

Taroko National Park
Taiwan is a mountainous island situated in a subtropical zone. The Tropic of Cancer cuts through the middle of the island, dividing the temperate and tropical climates zones. In addition, southwest airflows and typhoons during summer and the northeast seasonal winds during winter bring an abundance of rain. Together with its diversified topographic features, the island boasts an environment that is special and interesting both in terms of ecology and evolution sense. Taroko National Park’s boundaries include the mouth of Liwu River close to sea level, and also the highest point, Mount Nanhu, which stands at 3,742meters. This huge difference of altitude within the park provides the visitor with the pleasure of experiencing obvious climate changes along the Central Cross-Island Highway. Subtropical tohigh altitude vegetation can be observed during a single trip. The visitor is rewarded with captivating experiences brought about by seasonal changes and altitude difference.
Yanzikou (Swallow Grotto) Trail
Following the Central Cross-Island Highway, at Yanzikou (Swallow Grotto) the rock cliffs of the Liwu River gorge seem to reach to heaven while the river runs its swiftest and the distance between the gorge walls so narrow that they almost seem to touch each other.
Changchun Shrine Trail (Eternal Spring Shrine)
The Eternal Spring Shrine was built to honor the workers that died while building the Central Cross-Island Highway. The Changchun Shrine Trail (Eternal Spring Shrine Trail) begins with a descending stairway at the end of the Old Changchun bridge. Then arrow trail goes through short tunnels hugs along cliffs over the Liwu River. The actual Eternal Spring Shrine is only 300 meters from the trailhead and relatively easy short walk.

Shifen Waterfall
Shifen Waterfall is a curtain style waterfall. Due to its similarity with the Niagara Falls, it is reputed as the “Taiwan’s Niagara Falls”. The voluminous water and mighty force forms mists on top of the waterfall. If the sun happens to shine upon it, there is the chance to see rainbows hanging over the waterfall, perfect for pictures! The “Shifen Waterfall” is reputed as Taiwan’s Niagara for its magnificence. If the sun is out, there are chances of seeing a rainbow. It is the most popular tourist site in New Taipei City!
Shifen Old Street
The main feature here is the intersection of the old street built to connect with the railways. One can experience interesting “train passing by doorways” and the fun of shopping besides the railway tracks. It is also a well-known site where many Taiwanese singers take their MVs. One could stroll along the eateries or buy a “Shifen (very) happy” postcard and send to yourself in the future. If interested, you could also purchase a sky lantern and write down wishes to bless yourself with friends and families. The friendly shop owner will not only offer advice but also instruct how to take nice photos with the sky lanterns!
