Relish the adventure of exciting river trips and nature at its most exotic. Trekking and gliding through pristine forests, you will experience fascinating wildlife encounters in Black Gibbon territory and find yourself overnight in an amazing tree house high up in the jungle canopy. As you venture from the Thai Golden Triangle into the lush and remote mountainous areas of Northern Laos you will encounter intriguing local hill tribes and find there is no experience like this anywhere in the world.
Arrive in Luang Prabang and transfer to hotel check-in.
Afternoon, visit the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its sweeping low roofs, WatVisoun, the oldest temple in the city. Climb up to Mount Phou Si (328 steps) to see the sacred, gilded stupa, and the beautiful panoramic views of the city. Visit the evening hill-tribe market.
After breakfast visit the Pak Ou Caves, a destination for local pilgrimage. We also visit Ban Xang Hai, a small village on the riverbank known for its production of local rice alcohol ” lao lao”. Lunch at local restaurant. Then continue driving to Nong Khiaw. Arrive in Nong Khiaw and check-in hotel.
Take a boat trip on the scenic Nam Ou River and walk through small streams and rice paddies to the “100 Waterfalls”. Visit the village to learn more about the people and their life along the river. Return to Nong Khiaw by boat in the evening.
Today we take boat trip to Muang Khua. We will have a chance to descend the Nam Ou River discovering beautiful scenery along the riverbank and impressive landscapes. After lunch in Muang Khua, take a 2-hour drive to Muang La. Arrive in Muang La and transfer to hotel.
Today we depart to Pakbeng. We will stop at Oudomxay province, residence to a mixture of 23 ethnic minority groups. We also make a few rest stops along the way, which gives you the opportunity to see the ethnic minority groups of Hmong, Khmu, Akha and Taidam. Arrive in Pakbeng and check-in hotel.
Visit the morning market of Pakbeng village. Then board a private traditional boat for the trip up the Mekong River. On the way stop to visit some tribal minority villages such as the Hmong, Yao and Khmu. Lunch on the boat. Arrive in Houeixay and check-in hotel.
Transfer to the village of Baan Toup. Local guides will assist you from the village, on an uphill hike to the canopy infrastructure. Alternate gliding and trekking all the way to your tree house (1 to 3 hours depending on your tree house). Overnight in canopy tree house.
On the second day use the cables, relax in your tree house or go for short hikes on your own for potential wildlife encounters and sightings in this unique Black Gibbon territory. Overnight stay in canopy tree house.
Leave tree house at 10:00 am for Houayxay by Gibbon Experience bus. Check into hotel with the option to stroll around the area.
Early morning transfer from Houeixay to Laos Border. Cross the Mekong River to Chiang Khong Immigration and meet your Thai guide who will take you to hotel check-in and overnight.
Morning, visit the town of Chiang Saen, one of the North’s most interesting and attractive towns and blessed with over 60 historical monuments. Transfer to the airport for departure flight.
