Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Nepal – Kathmandu

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative will meet you and escort you to your hotel to assist with check-in. Then, you will have time to rest for the rest of the day.

Day 02: Arrival in Bhutan  – Thimphu

You are scheduled for a transfer to the airport to commence your onward journey to Bhutan. Upon arrival in Paro, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the mountains and surrounding landscapes. After completing visa formalities, our representative will welcome you and facilitate your transfer to Thimphu, 54 kilometers away.  Check in the hotel.

In the afternoon, we will visit Kuensel Phodrang, home to the Buddha Dordenma, reputed to be one of the largest Buddha statues in the world, towering at 169 feet (51.5 meters). This location offers a panoramic view of Thimphu city.

Day 03:  Explore Bhutan’s lively capital Thimphu

This morning, you have the privilege of meeting a Buddhist monk and scholar to discuss Buddhist beliefs and the intricacies of life in Bhutan. (This program depends on the monk’s scheduled activities available.) The day was dedicated to exploring the sights of Thimphu, commencing with a visit to the Memorial Chorten. This structure, adorned with golden spires that gleam under the sun, features the melodic sounds of its bells and an ongoing procession of elderly individuals circumambulating around it. The Memorial Chorten was erected by the royal grandmother Ashi Phutsho Chodoen in memory of her son, the third king, Jigme Dorje. It houses an impressive collection of Buddhist statues and is a nucleus of tantric Buddhism in all its complexity. We also visited the Folk Heritage Museum, established by Her Majesty the Queen Ashi Dorji Wangchuck. This museum is dedicated to bridging the connection between individuals and the rural past of Bhutan through a comprehensive exhibition of items and artifacts utilized in rural households, thereby illustrating customs, traditions, habits, and skills. Notably, the principal exhibit is the museum building, a meticulously restored three-story traditional house made of rammed mud and timber. It encompasses household objects and typical domestic implements employed by a rural family.

Day 04: Thimphu Valley – Punakaha

Following breakfast, we proceed to the Thimphu Farmers’ Market to observe the local organic produce. This lively activity center exemplifies the nation’s dedication to sustainability, organic agriculture, and traditional practices. Familiarly known as the Centenary Farmers’ Market, this venue enables Bhutanese farmers to sell their fresh, organic products directly to consumers.

After lunch, we go to Punakha, crossing the Dochula Pass at 3,100 meters. In clear weather, one may behold the eastern Himalayan ranges, including Bhutan’s highest peak, Mt. Gangkar Puensum, which rises to 7,570 meters. The drive from the pass is predominantly downhill, leading us to the lower and more temperate valleys of Lobesa. Upon our arrival in Punakha, we will visit Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility monastery. This site is a must-visit destination that offers a harmonious blend of spiritual significance, cultural richness, and breathtaking beauty, leaving a lasting impression on all who visit.

Day 05: Explore Punakha

Following breakfast, embark on a 1 to 2-hour hike to explore the picturesque countryside of Punakha. This hike offers a serene and immersive experience characterized by breathtaking landscapes, cultural exploration, and a profound connection to Bhutan’s rural lifestyle. The region is renowned for its fertile valleys, terraced rice fields, and traditional villages. In mid-morning, we will visit Punakha Dzong, which served as the former capital of Bhutan. This remarkable fortress, situated between two rivers, has withstood numerous glacial floods and fires. Each February, a procession known as the Punakha Serda commemorates the victory over the Tibetans.

Day 06:  Punakha – Paro Valley

After breakfast, head to Paro via Thimpu. Stop for lunch at Bhutan’s first brewery. After checking in at the hotel, you have free time to leisurely or enjoy spa & wellness at the hotel.

Evening, Immerse yourself in local culture while enjoying a home-cooked meal at a local family-hosted traditional Bhutanese dinner.

Day 07: The legendary Taktsang Lhakhang, Tiger’s Nest Monastery

Join us for an early morning hike to Taktsang Monastery. The trek, which is a challenging uphill journey, takes about 2 to 3 hours through picturesque pine forests. The monastery clings to a massive granite cliff that rises 800 meters above the Paro Valley. It is believed that the great saint Padmasambhava arrived here in the 7th century on the back of a flying tigress and meditated in a cave for three months. In the evening, we will explore Paro town to do last-minute shopping.

Day 08: Paro – Kathmandu Departure

Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Kathmandu, where you have a connecting flight home.
